As an avid reader I understand that most books are not read and the few that are, seldom provide any value.
What your are encouraging folks to do is admirable and simple. If people would simply take the time to focus, their investment would pay dividends in new wisdom and capability.

You know Barry, i sometimes wonder just how much money is sat on peoples hard drives, with products bought and never read. Like you say my friend, if people just focus on their investment it will pay off.

You’re absolutely correct…we constantly let distractions get in the way of our productivity. You have to develop a certain mindset, in order to succeed.
Once you have that mindset, it takes focus to single out the task at hand. In working on that task, make sure the job is done, before moving on to the next.
This greatly eliminates the chance of info overload.

I have the problem of info overload and most of the information is really good stuff! Just NOT what I need right now!
I have printed out Operation ebook from Paula Brett since I am writing my first ebook but I never thought to write notes and highlight.
That would make it like a very cool guide with her ideas and mine too!
Cool.
DUH! So simple and will probably get me out of this overload state!!

Its often the simple ideas that help the most. I now read the majority of my ebooks in this way and it does help, especially with the step by step guides.

You make a great point in this post, i felt my eBook was too long, and that people would put ti down after a while reading it, but i guess it always a good learning curve on improving the way you create your products on the next run?

Thanks for stopping by. I don’t think an eBook can be to long my friend. As long as it supplies ALL of the information to carry out ALL of the task its the right length. The problem is the people reading the eBooks have so many other things to try and fit into their lives that they often leave the eBooks unread and move on.
I have one eBook that i resell that is over 500 pages long and i often wonder if it ever gets read to the end.

The best thing I ever did for my business was purchase an ebook reader. I can literally load hundreds of ebooks onto it and read them just like reading any book.
Now my wife and I can sit down and just read together, except that I’m reading about how to improve my business while she’s reading her fiction.
Its surprising how short most ebooks are anyway, many can be read in about 20 minutes if we actually take the time to read them.

eBook readers are excellent as they allow you to take ALL of your eBooks with you and read them as you go. All you need to do is make a point of reading them and then ACT upon the info within. As you point out many can be read in a very short time.

Hi, thanks for the feedback. I don’t really follow your meaning on ‘let me know how you can do it well?’ If you could expand on it slightly I’ll do all i can to answer your question.
We would all like to earn a million online, however there’s no easy way. You need to put in the work and build your business. If you’re struggling to find your direction, then find a mentor.
The only Mentor I recommend is John Thornhill.

I found your post from a forum link and it’s interesting to see others are still interested in e-books. I personally think e-books can be invaluable if the information contained in the e-book resolves a problem or answers a question that could have literally taken someone days or weeks to figure out for themselves.
I’m all for the resurrection of the information product on eBay ONLY if the information is not copied from others or sold as useless information.

I agree with you about the value of some eBooks, and feel that people are sometimes put off of eBooks by the old out dated ones that are still being offered on eBay. There are lots of valuable eBooks around that do help people overcome obsticles and solve problems. It’s a shame that many people tar them all with the same brush. The thing is if people buy an eBook to help them solve a problem and follow the instructions through only to find the information is out of date the chances are they never buy another one, as they have wasted money and time.
I would also like the resurrection of the automated eBook sales on eBay but while these old ones are still doing the rounds i can’t see it happening, which is a shame but rules are rules and it does help keep the rubbish out (slightly).
I think people will remain interested in eBooks for years to come. With the amount of portable devices that people can read their eBooks from, i feel that they have yet to reach their peak.
I have been over and read your blog post John, and i have to say that you’re bang on my friend. I would also advice people to write their own eBooks on their specialist niche.

Well, I was pretty much nodding my head all the way through your article there. Oh yes, got the ebook, will finish that one tomorrow, will read that one again….. At the end of the day, I’ve probably got duplicate infomation due to not reading and absorbing the information properly.
Great idea though, to print them out and get away from computer and distraction.

Hi Julie, I’m glad that you could relate to the post. We all get distracted at times and with the best intentions of getting back to our reading we do forget.
I’ve been printing eBooks out for some time now and often turn them into my very own manual when they tend to get a little complicated. They’re so much easier to follow that way.
Another tip: is to print them out and create a manual then when you’re ready to follow it through open the eBook on your PC and work through your manual and the eBook together. You’ll get the best results this way
