Did you achieve all that you set out to in 2009

Hello everyone and thank you for visiting my blog.

I had hoped to get this blog post written the day before Christmas eve but my mum’s health took a turn for the worse.
My regulars readers will know that my mum has been very unwell for the last few months. The hospital had discharged her to a residential home for an interim placement for a few weeks to see if her condition improved, which it did. Then on December 23rd she started having a Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA, Mini-Stroke). The doctor was called and treated her for the condition, but the following day (Christmas eve) she had another TIA so the Paramedics were called in. My mum was readmitted to hospital, where she had a further 7 TIA’s over the Christmas period. She has now been discharged again and has returned to the residential home, for the time being, I hope.

On to the Blog post:

Did you achieve all that you set out to in 2009?
If you did then “Congratulations” are in order and you should give yourself a huge pat on the back.

If you didn’t achieve your goals, what stopped you from doing so?

The software I use to make these videos

Hello everyone and thank you for visiting my blog.

I recently created a series of videos to show people my Brandable eBooks, how to get them and upload the salespage to Turbo Lister. The videos have been quite successful and I’m very pleased with them.

A few of my regular readers asked me about the software and how to get hold of it. So I have created another video to show you exactly where to get the software, FREE of charge, and how I have formatted it for audio and video synchronization.

I would also like to thank Dave Smith of http://dave-smith.org for his help in solving a problem that I had with the software. If you watch the video all is explained there.

Having just watched the video again I noticed that i forgot to mention that once you have downloaded and installed the software you will have a blue square icon on your desktop. Simply double click it to open the software and start making your very own videos.

I would recommend that you start with a short test video first so that you can check your audio and video are in synch. Once they are, you’re away.

Spare a minute for Madeleine McCann

Kate and Gerry McCann launch a new internet viral campaign to find Madeleine.

The desperate parents, whose daughter Maddie was snatched from her holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, Portugal, on 3rd May 2007, have teamed up with the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (CEOP) to launch the web campaign in their continuing search for their little girl.

The online message, which CEOP believe will reach its intended recipient, was designed to urge the person who knows what happened to Madeleine, to ‘do the right thing‘.

Jim Gamble, head of CEOP says it is the right time to get this message out. He says: “It isn’t a public appeal, it is a message intended directly for the person, or possibly people, who know what happened to Madeleine. They are out there, they are keeping that secret, we just need to get the message to them.”

CEOP have consulted psychologists in constructing the viral message, hoping to maximise the chances of it reaching its intended recipient.

Kate, Gerry and Jim want to appeal to all users of the internet for their assistance in the campaign. They are urging people to share the link and post it on their blogs or social networking sites to spread the message.

Just A Quick Catch Up

Hi and thanks for stopping by my blog.

It‘s  been such a long time since I’ve written a blog post that I thought I should let you know why and what’s been going on in my personal life that has caused me to stop posting.

My regular readers will know that I had a minor operation back in June and that I was then on bed rest for three months while the op’ site healed. It still hasn’t healed and has in fact got worse, so much so that I now have to see a Plastic Surgeon about fixing me up again.

On top of that my mum has been admitted to The Neuro ICU at The John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford.

Roughly Four years ago my mum had a series of strokes and was in hospital for a few months. During which time she was found to have Four Aneurisms around her brain. Surgeons managed to make two of them safe by fitting coils around them but found that the remaining two were conjoined and would be extremely difficult to operate on, putting my mums life at risk.

Google and Twitter News Flash

Google News Flash

I was visiting Randy Smith’s blog the other day and he brought my attention to a new slap by Google regarding affiliate links. Apparently Google are taking a dislike to uncloaked affiliate links. Randy included a link to Andrew Hansen’s blog where you can get the full story.

An uncloaked link would look like; www.someonesproduct.com/aff_id=123

Where as a cloaked affiliate link looks something like;
www.yoursite.com/recommends/someonesproduct

If you haven’t cloaked your affiliate links then you don’t need to be alarmed, simply sign up to my newsletter, using the opt-in box below and you will be able to download some cloaking software free of charge.

If you scroll down this page there’s a video to show you exactly how to use the software and how to upload the links to your website. If you need any help with it drop me an email and I’ll do what I can to help.

 Twitter News Flash

If you use Twitter you may have noticed that the amount of people you’re following and the amount of followers you have dropped last week. I noticed that I lost about 200 followers and quiet a few that I was following.

Spell check is NOT enough

Hello everyone and thanks for visiting my blog.

No matter what work we do online we need to be able to type. How we type is irrelevant, be it one finger or all fingers and thumbs it really doesn’t matter. What does matter is that we spell our content correctly, whether it’s an advert, article, blog post, ebook or email.

I always write my content in word as it provides a spell check and saves me making silly errors, or so I thought…..

I have recently finished my latest ebook and I asked a few people to read through it and let me know of any errors that they come across. Having used a spell checker I wasn’t to concerned about my spelling, but punctuation and grammar was something else.

One of my friends, Mandy Allen of  http://mandyallen.com, pointed something out that had been missed by everybody that had read my ebook, including me.

Before I tell you of my stupid mistake I think it’s important to emphasize that when people read they tend to form a picture in their mind.

My mistake was that I had entered a wrong word and my spell check didn’t pick it up as it was spelt correctly.

Do you get distracted when trying to work?

Hello every one and thank you for visiting my blog.

When you start working from home one of the biggest challenges you face are the distractions from your work, and there are lots of them to deal with.

Noises from around the house like the dog barking, the TV blaring out, the phone ringing or the washing machine going through its last cycle is enough to interrupt your concentration and mess up your work schedule.

We can however take steps to reduce them. Give the dog a bone to chew, turn the TV off, remove the batteries from the door bell and close all the doors to isolate the noise from the washing machine. Turning the Answer phone on and the phone to silent is also a big help.

You can also make a few simple rules. For example, my wife and children now know that when my bedroom door is closed I am at work and do not wish to be interrupted.

Once you have those distractions dealt with it should be plain sailing….
But it isn’t always that simple as there are other distractions, like email marketing!!

Post op’ news

Hello every one and thank you for visiting my blog.

I’ve been fairly quiet lately due to having an operation. All went well and i’m now on bed rest while the operation site heals up. Two weeks down (nearly) and two weeks to go (I hope).

While four weeks in bed may be an ideal time to catch up on various tasks I’m unable to carry them out as I can only sit up for a short while each day. Any longer than 30 minutes a day and I run the risk of the op’ site re-opening and having to start all over again, which simply can not happen!!

While laying down I’ve been as busy as I can be, sending emails that i’ve typed out with one finger from my left hand, being right handed this has taken some time but some aspects of work simply can’t be put off as customers don’t like to wait to long, and nor should they.

Have You Tested Your Zip Files?

Hi, today I thought I’d let you know about a mistake that I made, in the hope that it saves you making the same one.

I’ve recently had to change my PC and needed WinZip on the new one. So I downloaded the evaluation version, which lasts for 45 days, I thought it was fantastic, as I do with anything that’s free.

I zipped a few files up and loaded them onto the internet for downloading, then I downloaded them and tested that they worked. They all appeared to be working as they should be, so I went about sending the links out.

On five occasions, with three different zip files I had people come back to me saying that they either couldn’t open the files, or when they did they only had part of the package that was meant to be there. So I tested them again, they all worked fine for me. I scratched my head, umm???

So I re-zipped all three of them, re-uploaded them, and then re-tested them. Again they all worked for me, so I emailed the people apologizing for the error and told them what I had done; i.e. re-zip, re-load & re-test and that they were all fine now.

Do YOU need some inspiration?

The other day I was visiting some blogs, and I read a post by Craig Breeze, (Breezie as he’s known to his friends). He has a fantastic blog with some excellent content, pop over and see; just click his name, above.

One of his posts was about cycling for fitness. I left a comment saying about how I use a hand cycle (being disabled) for fun, exercise and fund raising. I went on to say about some of the events I’ve taken part in for various charities, and for one of my nephews that suffered an acquired brain injury after being hit by a car while crossing the road.

Breezie sent me an email saying how inspired he was by my comment and asked if he could use it for a blog post, which I agreed to. I have since been back and had a read. After reading his post I, again, went to leave a comment. This time however it was so long that I decided to use it as a post myself in the hope of picking peoples spirits up and to show everyone that no matter how big of a challenge you face there is nearly always someone worse off.
