Today I would like to cover keywords and keyword spamming. Keywords are used all over the internet to increase search results, but today I would like to concentrate on eBay.

As you know the use of keywords plays a large part in being a successful seller on eBay. By placing the relevant keywords in your titles and descriptions your items have a much better chance of being discovered in the search results.

More views = more sales.

Because keywords play such an important part of our listings and their success some people are keyword spamming to try and increase their sales. This is a major No No on eBay and, when caught out, will get your listings removed.

So what is keyword spamming?

Basically keyword spamming is when people enter keywords into their titles and descriptions that have nothing to do with their product but could influence the search results.

For example:

Some people selling non branded goods try adding a few brand names to their listings so as to get the item found in more search results, remember More views = more sales.

Let me elaborate a little: A non branded denim jacket saying something like: Heavy Duty Denim Jacket bla bla bla Not Levis, or Heavy Duty Denim Jacket bla bla bla similar to Levis

Or The latest film title on DVD bla bla bla not Blu-ray.

I’m sure you get the picture.

Some people, knowing that keyword spamming is not allowed, try and get clever by including non relevant keywords in white text on a white background so that they are not seen by the human eye in the hope that they’ll slip through the eBay team assigned to checking the listings. This is a waste of time as eBay have software that also checks the listings, and the software sees all text, regardless of its colour, and flags up the offending listings.

It’s against eBay’s policies to do anything that manipulates the search or browse experience on eBay, this includes all parts of your listing: Title, Sub-title, Pictures, Item Details and Descriptions.

When eBay catch you doing this they will remove your listing and give you a warning. If you have further listings in the fixed price fromat their position within the listings could also be reduced, which will obviously affect your sales. If you continue trying to list items in this way, or try to hide your text, (white text on white background), your account will be suspended.

So you see it really isn’t worth the risk.

The Importance Of Comments and Replies: + Plugins To Help With Each

I was hoping to have the next video of the Newbies Guide created and online by now but last week I had so many things go wrong that I just didn’t have the time to create it.

I had optimized the sales page for Ease The Squeeze With Auctions and when I uploaded it the whole page turned Chinese. There had been an error in the loading code and no matter how many times I uploaded it I couldn’t correct it. So I deleted the page and started all over again, that was 3 days taken out of my schedule, but it’s done now.

Onto the blog post:

Regular visitors, that leave a comment, would have noticed that things have changed slightly.

I’ve added a few plugins to enhance my blog for the search engines. You see every time a comment is left the search engines view it as fresh content and the search engine spiders are all over it. The more comments, and replies, the better results you’ll get from the search engines.

Not only that but those that leave comments also generate back links to there website, which in turn helps their Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and helps move their website up the rankings. The more comments you leave on other peoples blogs the better your ranking will become, especially if you’re commenting on blogs that are in the same niche as yourself and you use keywords, where appropriate, in your comments.

The new plugins are:

CommentLuv: Allows people to automatically add a link to their last blog post to their comments. Which makes it easier for future visitors to click and connect to your blog. If you’ve seen blogs with commentluv installed on them you would have noticed the little heart shaped icon. If you register with commentluv then your details will appear in a small box every time someone hovers over the icon. Not only that but if you register yourself with commentluv then when you leave a comment on a blog that also uses commentluv you can choose from your previous 5 blog posts, allowing you to fine tune which of your posts is more relevant to the one you’re about to comment on. Thus allowing the chance of pulling some readers from that blog to yours.

WordPress Thread Comments: Allows you to reply to comments, and place your reply directly below the comment you’re replying to. Each of your replies are also viewed as a fresh comment, helping to feed the SEO spiders and increase your ranking. I used to reply to comments by editing the comment and leaving my reply beneath it. While this may look pretty it does not help with the search engines and there’s no way of automatically letting the person know that you have replied to their comment. With this plugin every visitor is able to reply to any comment and start a conversation going.

Subscribe To Comments: This little beauty does exactly what it says in the title. It allows you to subscribe to comments, by checking the box beneath your comment it will automatically send an email to you, and all of those that have previously left comments, every time a new comment is left. Allowing you to build a community and carry on the conversation. Don’t worry you’re not added to any mailing list and you can unsubscribe at any time by clicking a link within each email.

All of these plugins are FREE and can be installed by going to your WordPress admin panel, clicking the Plugins link and select add new.

Then just enter:

CommentLuv > search > install > activate.
WordPress Thread Comments > search > install > activate.
Subscribe To Comments > search > install > activate.

None of these need to be edited in any way.

Some blog owners may be concerned about seeing their name appear in the recent comments section to often. I’ve got over this by going to my widget section, finding my recent comments subtitle and adding & Replies to it.

Recent Comments & Replies now shows people that I read and reply to all of the comments left, which I hope will generate more comments being left.

Hello everyone and thank you for visiting my blog.

I had hoped to get this blog post written the day before Christmas eve but my mum’s health took a turn for the worse.
My regulars readers will know that my mum has been very unwell for the last few months. The hospital had discharged her to a residential home for an interim placement for a few weeks to see if her condition improved, which it did. Then on December 23rd she started having a Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA, Mini-Stroke). The doctor was called and treated her for the condition, but the following day (Christmas eve) she had another TIA so the Paramedics were called in. My mum was readmitted to hospital, where she had a further 7 TIA’s over the Christmas period. She has now been discharged again and has returned to the residential home, for the time being, I hope.

On to the Blog post:

Did you achieve all that you set out to in 2009?
If you did then “Congratulations” are in order and you should give yourself a huge pat on the back.

If you didn’t achieve your goals, what stopped you from doing so?

Information overload? I suffered with it myself for quiet some time at first. If you are then I recommend that you start slowly. Concentrate on one goal at a time, make a check list of what you really need to do and keep it beside your PC. When you have achieved each task tick it off of your list and then have a break. Eventually you will complete the check list and can then move forward and make another for the next step you wish to take. This is exactly what I have done this year and it has worked very well for me.

Time management? We all have busy lives with work and family commitments to consider. Make a plan of your spare time, do you sit and watch the TV every night? If so then plan for 30 minutes or an hour every day, if you can put in more time all the better. Maybe you could achieve one task from your checklist and then go and relax in front of the TV with a smile on your face.

Were you unsure of what direction to take? If so then get yourself a mentor. It’s what I did last year and I recommend it to everyone. I joined John Thornhills Internet Marketing Masterclass and now know exactly what direction I’m taking and how to achieve my goals, (small step by small step). Now I know I’m heading in the right direction and to be totally honest with you I didn’t achieve my all of my goals last year, but, bearing in mind that I spent 3 months on bed rest after an operation and then 3 months at my mums side during her stay in hospital and the residential home, my year was cut in half so I’m really very pleased with what i did achieve.

I created this blog, which I had thought of for a long time but always held myself back through fear of not doing it right.

I created my very first ClickBank Product, along with my very first Salespage, affiliates page and a mini course to go with it. I have also created a discount page just for you, my readers, which you can find at: http://www.easethesqueezewithauctions.com/discount/

In fact my aim for 2010 is to create more products in a brand new niche and a series of videos that will take you by the hand and show you exactly what needs to be done once you’ve bought your first website. From downloading it from someone else’s website to uploading it to your very own, with all the techie bits in between.

I also have to go back into hospital for an operation to correct the last one that refuses to heal and have been told that I’ll be in hospital for at least 2 weeks, if everything goes well. I will also continue assisting my mum for as long as it takes.

A personal update first:
As my regular readers will know I’ve been fairly quiet lately because my mum suffered a bleed to her brain and has been in hospital for the last 10 weeks. Her life is no longer in danger but her mental state is now very concerning. I’m spending as much time with her as possible to try and bring her back to current affairs.

As she is now in our local hospital I’ve got a couple of hours spare each day and am trying to catch up with everything, it’s slow going but the beauty of internet marketing is that if you do what you can when you can you will   progress.

Onto the blog post:
I’ve created a couple of brandable ebooks and have made them available to my subscribers, free of charge of course.

 I was visiting Randy Smith’s blog the other day and he brought my attention to a new slap by Google regarding affiliate links. Apparently Google are taking a dislike to uncloaked affiliate links. Randy included a link to Andrew Hansen’s blog where you can get the full story.

 An uncloaked link would look like; www.someonesproduct.com/aff_id=123

Where as a cloaked affiliate link looks something like;
www.yoursite.com/recommends/someonesproduct

 If you haven’t cloaked your affiliate links then you don’t need to be alarmed, simply sign up to my newsletter, using the opt-in box below and you will be able to download some cloaking software free of charge.

 Twitter News Flash

 If you use Twitter you may have noticed that the amount of people you’re following and the amount of followers you have dropped last week. I noticed that I lost about 200 followers and quiet a few that I was following.

 The reason for this is Twitter has been looking into twitter accounts and has suspended any accounts that they thought were spam accounts. They then adjusted the numbers accordingly.

 You don’t need to be alarmed, unless your account was one of those suspended.

 In my opinion it’s good to have a clear out every now and then, and if you obey the rules you’ve nothing to worry about.

No matter what work we do online we need to be able to type. How we type is irrelevant, be it one finger or all fingers and thumbs it really doesn’t matter. What does matter is that we spell our content correctly, whether it’s an advert, article, blog post, ebook or email.

 I always write my content in word as it provides a spell check and saves me making silly errors, or so I thought…..

 I have recently finished my latest ebook and I asked a few people to read through it and let me know of any errors that they come across. Having used a spell checker I wasn’t to concerned about my spelling, but punctuation and grammar was something else.

One of my friends, Mandy Allen of  http://mandyallen.com, pointed something out that had been missed by everybody that had read my ebook, including me.

 Before I tell you of my stupid mistake I think it’s important to emphasize that when people read they tend to form a picture in their mind.

My mistake was that I had entered a wrong word and my spell check didn’t pick it up as it was spelt correctly.

I had written “ebook creatures” when I should have written “ebook creators”, which would not only make the reader picture the wrong thing altogether but alter the meaning more than words can explain.

Can you picture my end reader if this mistake hadn’t been picked up on? There I was trying to build a picture of Jessica Fletcher and what I had actually done was make them picture something like this:   

So, the moral of the story is; “always ask someone to proof read your work BEFORE it has a chance to be seen by your customers, first impressions count”.
