Google and Twitter News Flash

I was visiting Randy Smith’s blog the other day and he brought my attention to a new slap by Google regarding affiliate links. Apparently Google are taking a dislike to uncloaked affiliate links. Randy included a link to Andrew Hansen’s blog where you can get the full story.
An uncloaked link would look like; www.someonesproduct.com/aff_id=123
Where as a cloaked affiliate link looks something like;
www.yoursite.com/recommends/someonesproduct
If you haven’t cloaked your affiliate links then you don’t need to be alarmed, simply sign up to my newsletter, using the opt-in box below and you will be able to download some cloaking software free of charge.
If you scroll down this page there’s a video to show you exactly how to use the software and how to upload the links to your website. If you need any help with it drop me an email and I’ll do what I can to help.
Twitter News Flash
If you use Twitter you may have noticed that the amount of people you’re following and the amount of followers you have dropped last week. I noticed that I lost about 200 followers and quiet a few that I was following.
The reason for this is Twitter has been looking into twitter accounts and has suspended any accounts that they thought were spam accounts. They then adjusted the numbers accordingly.
You don’t need to be alarmed, unless your account was one of those suspended.
In my opinion it’s good to have a clear out every now and then, and if you obey the rules you’ve nothing to worry about.
Follow me on twitter and i’ll follow you back: http://twitter.com/barry_wells
Until next time, take care

Hi Barry,
Glad you warned me about Twitter! I need to learn that cloaking stuff so I can apply it in my book before it goes live. Thanks for the heads up on these issues.
Kathy
Thanks for the mention Barry
Andrew
You’re more than welcome Andrew. It’s important that people get the whole picture, which you covered on your blog. Thanks for that.
Respect & Regards,
Barry
Hi Barry,
yes, I have heard of Google’s dislike. Goodness, as if we don’t have enough on our plates already
Yep, Twitter follows strict guidelines … and I have lost a couple of followers as well. Most often though I go through new followers one by one. It’s a lot of work … perhaps one day I’ll find a software that will do this for me
Many Thanks for a great post!
Svenja
Thank you all for your comments, i do apprieciate them all.
Svenja, you can go to http://huitter.com/mutuality/ and do a mass un-follow of those that don’t follow you back or un-follow all, or follow all that follow you. The point of concern is that when you do a mass un-follow you will lose some important people and if you keep unfollowing those people and then re-follow them twitter may think that your hassling people to make them follow you back and may suspend you. Although as you approach the 2,000 limit you may want to clear out some of those that you’re following so that you can go above 2,000 followers.
Hope that offers some help.
Take care my friend
Barry
Hi Barry,
I wondered how long it would take Google to bring up an issue on uncloaked affiliate links, but at least it makes you protect your own, and i will bear the twitter issue in mind for when i start using it!

Hello Barry, I’ve only just joined Twitter but I’m following you now. I think I already have your free software for cloaking affiliate links, but as usual I have done nothing with it. What’s the programs name?;so I can find it and start using it!
John
Hi John, the folder you’re looking for is called CLOAKURL, if you click start > search > files & folders and type in CLOAKURL it should find it ok. If not send me an email John and i’ll send the link again my friend.

Hi Mike
Good question, and as yet I can’t find an answer either way. I think that it could but don’t know for sure and wouldn’t like to give you any wrong information. I’ll keep trying to find an answer for you. Check out Andrew Hanse’s blog: link in body of post.

Hey Barry,
I was wondering about your blog. It’s awesome! Great setup. I am really interested in possibly getting a custom theme template created. We’ll see anyway. Thanks for the info on Google not being to happy about the affiliate links. I have a cloaker only been using it a little. Now with this info I will definitely start cloaking all my links. Very good info thanks
Eddie

Hi Barry,
Thanks for letting us know. As you say, I too think it’s a good idea to do a clean out now and then, and if Twitter is going to do it, it does save a little job there. (wish they could do a clean out in my cupboards as well).
I did notice somewhere where an affiliate link was not accepted, could be the reason why. Awhile ago I did looked at your video, but, shame on me, I have not yet clocked my links. Now is the time, since Google are taking abit of a dislike to them.
Thanks Barry
Take Care
Cheers

Hi Julie,
This post was written some time ago so it’s a good idea to have a clear out of your own every now and then, cupboards included
We should certainly cloak our affiliate links Julie. It helps them avoid being slapped or stolen (as we disguise them).
Another beauty of cloaking them is that if the product creator ever changes the pages, products or payment services we simply have to update the cloaked page in our recommended folders.
By doing it this way links placed in products can always be updated with ease so they’re always valid links.
I have software for cloaking, which is available on my subscribers download page
Have a great week Julie, catch up soon.

Hi Barry,
Apologies for not getting back to you sooner (was on another planet for a couple of days with a migraine).
I subscribed to your blog, got the cloaking software + + + + ! Blimey Barry, I was not expecting all that. Your book is terrific, straight to the point advice and written with such easy for anyone to understand. (I like easy
.) Thank you soooo much.
Take Care
Cheers
Julie
Now, to get onto the cloaking as I was so engrossed in your book I didn’t get to it.

Hi Julie,
No need for apologies my friend, especailly as you’ve been suffering from a migraine. I’ve only ever had one migraine myself, it lasted a week and I was convinced I had a tumor. It felt as if my head wanted to explode.
I’m really pleased that you were impressed by my subscriber gifts. I like to write my eBooks in a way that everyone can understand them and follow along with ease.
I’ve had those eBooks were we need to eat a dictionary to get through the introduction and guess what……I’ve never made it to the end and understood the content.
When it comes to cloaking Julie, I’d create the folder on your PC and load your cloaked links (pages) straight to that folder and upload it all at once.
Here’s the link to the video i created Julie:

If you get stuck at all give me a shout Julie and I’ll do all I can to help.
Respect and Regards, Barry
