As for the .zip issues there, I used to have those until I switched to WinRAR. It creates .rar and .zip files without any issues, and has a 'test archive' feature built right in. It will open and read just about any kind of archive as well. There is a trial version, but it never really runs out, it just makes you hit 'continue' every time you open it after that.
