How To Create A PowerPoint Presentation Part Two Adding Animations
Challenge Update:
People have been submitting more videos for the Video Blog Challenge and some have started submitting their second ones. Be sure to visit the link above and learn from the tutorials on offer, as you know learning from video is the easiest way as you simply watch, pause and apply.
There haven’t been as many videos submitted as I had hope for, or from as many people that said they would be taking part. Which is a shame but we all have things going on that sometimes stop us in our tracks.
If, however, anyone wants to get started and join us on the challenge it’s never to late. There’s nothing to stop anyone adding 2 videos a weeks to catch up and there are still 3 weeks until the challenge ends, nudge nudge
Onto my post:
How To Create A PowerPoint Presentation Part Two
For my part of the Video Blog Challenge I am creating a series of videos to show you how to start Creating PowerPoint Presentations. If you missed Part One then pull up a chair and pop back to How To Create PowerPoint Presentations Part One.
In part Two I show you how to add Animations to your images and text and then how to add Transitions for you to move from one slide to the next.
I hope that you enjoyed the video and that it has helped you with starting to create, or improve, your own PowerPoint Presentations. Next week I will be detailing how to start recording them
Share your views:
As you know I love to read and reply to your comments so please share your views with me and my readers and let us know what you thought of the video.
Is there anything you would like me to explain in more detail?
Will you start creating your own Presentations now?
Sharing Is Caring:
If you enjoyed the video, or think the series will help your friends and followers, then please use the tools available to let them know and help me spread the word. It is appreciated and I do return the favour and share your content when I visit your blogs
Until next time, Lights, Camera then Take Action
P.S. Please take a moment, after leaving your comments, to visit the Video Blog Challenge page and catch up on the videos being submitted. There are some excellent tutorials for us all to learn from

Hey Barry where do you get your video intros? Did you buy them through a photo site?
I’ve seen them on Fotolia (where I get my photos) and even downloaded one by accident (I thought it was a picture of a box but it was an animation of a box opening “oooh LOL” aside from that it’s the only one I have at the moment.
Is there a source of free intros online?

Hope you’re well Warren, take care.

Hey Barry,
Your intro is awesome, and the quality of the video is also great. I’m going to use ScreenFlow to create my tutorials, and I’ve even got myself a new microphone, so I’m feeling ready
When it comes to presentations, I’m using Keynote from Apple, so I could probably create a video like yours presenting Keynote instead

Hi Jens,
I’m glad you like the intro and quality of the video, thanks
I was replying to a comment on YouTube earlier and the person there uses Screen Flow. Good for you getting your new microphone and getting yourself ready that’s excellent news Jens.
That sounds like a very good idea you’ve got. A tutorial on Keynote will be really helpful to those that use Mac’s.
Let me know when it’s ready Jens and I’ll add your link to the challenge page and get some traffic over to it mate
Thanks Jens,

Hi Barry
There’s now some brilliant options available for animating videos as you have shown in your presentation. Considering your working background Barry, and no disrespect intended, I am really impressed how you have mastered all this technology in such a short period of time.
Bill
Hi Bill,
I think PowerPoint animations can really add something special to our presentations when we apply them with some thought.
No disrespect taken Bill, you know my background mate and I appreciate you saying that
I learnt all of this through the Learn With Sally coaching. Sally really is a great mentor and even 4 months after the coaching has ended she still shows us all support, encouragement and additional information as well as mentioning her students online and adding some of our videos to her YouTube channel.
Sally Neill is the BEST mentor I have had the pleasure of being taught by and my first recommendation
Thanks Bill,

Interesting last sentence you wrote there!

Great video Barry and very well done. I’ll also say I like the intro and the bookends as well. have been thinking of adding some but just not sure yet.
So here is my question. What version of PowerPoint do you have because I have 2007 and mine’s not the same. You might want to point that out in your video at some point because that’s what I hate about these programs. I have to go into the custom feature to get my animations to come across the screen like you have. Not so easy I’m afraid and VERY time consuming. Yuck!!!
I’m loving this lesson though, job very well done. Thanks for teaching us Barry.

Hi Adrienne,
I really like the bookends although I don’t think I will use them for every video I create but I will for this series.
That’s a very good point Adrienne, I have MS Office 2010. I’m not sure which version I have on my “antique” laptop but will have a look and see if I can find a way. Then If possible I’ll create an extra video from the laptop as long as it can take it. Ummmmm a very good point Adrienne, let me get my thinking cap on and I’ll see what can be done.
Thanks Adrienne,
Respect and Regards,
Barry

I like them too and you can brand yourself in that way but it really is good for this series. Very professional I might add.
That’s what I thought Barry so I know not everyone has an updated version. I just got a brand new laptop but I don’t need to upgrade to 2010 since there’s nothing wrong with 2007. Was just curious and wondered if anyone else had that question.
That’s okay Barry, you don’t have to go to all that trouble. I just know that it’s hard sometimes teaching programs when not everyone has the same version. Great job anyway.

Adrienne recently posted..The Secret Of Making Great YouTube Videos
Hi Adrienne,
I may purchase some more bookends and see if I can edit them in some way
Nobody else has mentioned which version of PowerPoint they’re using Adrienne so I’ll see what’s said and if need be I’ll try and do another video on an older version of the program
It may be as well to cover that aspect just in case
Thanks Adrienne,
Barry

Barry,
You made me laugh a bit when you said you are going to repeat yourself. I have a short side story.
My son will be heading into high school next year so we had to attend an Open House at the local high school. The principal starts his intro to all the parents and future students. He proceeds to say 3 TIMES “Your child does not need to take study hall.” And then says, “I used to be a coach and the only way to get my point across was to state it 3 times.” The parents were laughing because it makes sense.
Anyway, repeat if you need to. It sinks in better.
I am so excited to get started in Power Point. Although, my next 2 videos for the challenge will still be filmed in Camstudio. I may try some PPP this weekend for something else.
Thanks for all your help.

I’m really pleased that you’re going to start using PowerPoint, you can do so much with it. Best of luck with your project
So you’re using CamStudio….. I love the way you include the intro and exit credits, they look very professional. Do you use Windows Live Movie Maker for those?
I’m really looking forward to your videos Allie, both of your videos so far have taught me something useful. I think most of us can learn something from them
Thanks Allie, have a great weekend.

Hi Barry,
Brilliant presentation mate, my only problem is I only have Open Office, and from what I can see you have to create the animations separately and then import them, but I am more than happy to be proved wrong.
Well, this weekend I am going to practice my BBC voice, with a Yorkshire accent, well to be precise a mixture of Yorkshire accents as we have led an almost nomadic lifestyle.:)
Anyway, I will have a practice doing audio and screenshots. I have a great free program, Photoscape, not as powerful as Photoshop, but it takes brilliant imaging work. In fact my new headers at Moneymatters and at the Giveaway were created using it. I just hope my mike is up to the job. Mind it is a ready excuse for if I make a hash up, I’ll just say my mike was *****
So, that’s the plan, I hope I can be like the A Team, and ‘Love it when a plan comes together’
Good to see so many videos,
Barry
Hi Barry,
I’ve not got a clue about adding animations in Open Office mate, sorry. I’ve sent an email to OO and asked them if it’s possible and if so how. When they come back to me I’ll let you know what they say Barry
ha ha your BBC voice
Just relax and be yourself Barry as long as your instructions are clear people will understand what you’re saying. They do me and my alphabet doesn’t contain T’s or H’s
Fair play to you for having a practice and trying things you haven’t done before, that’s what it’s all about Barry… Stepping out of your comfort zone and making progress, great stuff
Photoscape sounds really good and the fact that it’s free makes it that much more attractive. A video tutorial of that at some point in the future will go down really well.
You won’t need any excuses Barry, I know you’ll get it done mate, you’re that kind of fella
There are some fantastic videos aren’t there and more are being added as well.
Enjoy your weekend Barry and keep pushing yourself mate

I said earlier how terrible I was with power point presentations and yes, this is such a beautiful video! I forwarded the link of part 1 to my brother and he is in college and has to do presentations every week as a part of their curriculum and he did love it.
I didn’t know animations were so easy to include!
Barry, I must say; the video challenge is something I am learning from. I did check Allie’s latest video and yes, seeing it is much different from just reading it. It makes it easier to follow I must say.
Thanks for initiating the challenge, I am loving the entries; though I hope I was quicker in catching up!

I agree, Allie’s videos are great. Her latest one has taught me some things about G+ that I’m going to apply later. Her first one also got me started on Pinterest with a clear view of what it’s all about.
I’m really pleased that you’re enjoying the challenge and learning from all the videos, there are some excellent tutorials aren’t there. I also think it is so much easier to learn by being shown what to do rather than being told how to do it.
Hajra you’re to hard on yourself. You’ve been filled with flu the last week or so and that makes it extremely hard to focus on anything but now that you’re starting to feel better I see you’re making up for lost time
Thanks Hajra, I hope that you’re back to 100% very soon.

Hi Barry
Sorry it’s taken me some time to get over here again mate, wish there was more hours in the day; playing catch up when you have been absent for a while is really time consuming!
The “Intro’s and Exit’s” Barry, dont you just love VoxFlair! There is so much you can do with them and they do add that something extra to the video.
You are really covering this topic on “PowerPoint Presentations” superbly mate and I know people are going to take away a lot from it and if they follow your instructions they will soon be producing quality PowerPoint Presentation’s themselves.
I like the point you make about the transitions Barry; keeping it the same throughout so the viewer focusses on the content rather than what transition is coming up next.
I really do like your videos Barry they are so easy to follow and understand and you present them in such a way that you are drawn in and totally focussed on what you’re saying.
Another excellent video packed full of quality content and information; well-done mate
Take care and have a great week, my regards to Tracy

Hello mate,
You don’t have to say sorry here Ian, I know you’ve been laid up with a chest infection during the challenge mate so no worries on that front Ian
Yes it is time consuming playing catch up, I’ve done it myself many times Ian so I know exactly where you’re coming from mate.
The Vox Flair bookends do add so much to the videos don’t they. Did you purchase the full package or just grab the free ones as I did? If so what do you think of the whole package?
Thanks for the compliments on the PPP series Ian, I hope that others can pick it up with ease and start to create their own presentations. Some times we see a whole range of transitions being used and I think it breaks our focus on the actual content, which of course is the whole point of the video in the first place.
I’ve passed on your regards to Tracey, thanks Ian. She’s a little apprehensive now that April is here as she has to see the consultant about her back in a couple of weeks to see what kind of operation she has to have and the recovery period.
Thanks again Ian, take care mate.
