I’m Still selling eBooks on eBay, But How?
In April 2008 eBay changed the policy on the sales of digital items, eBooks. As they thought it may lead to feedback manipulation. Thousands of sellers were affected all over the world, many of which threw in the towel. This in turn left a gap in the market. During my 30 day eBay suspension, as mentioned in my last blog posting, I received an email telling me about a man called Dave Nicholson who had a solution to the problem; he’d produced a package called Digital Media Solutions which not only told us how to get around the problem, he showed us how to do it in short videos.
If we turned our eBooks into physical items and sent them via the postman, then we could still list them on eBay. But how do you turn a digital item into a physical one? Well that’s where Dave Nicholson came into it. His Digital Media Solutions supplied a series of files that were formatted to make a disc auto run once inserted into a PC. Following the videos that he supplied it was quite simple to place the chosen eBook into its correct folder along with bonus items, back end sales and other promotions, including my newsletter. Once the files were constructed all I had to do was burn them to a CD Rom.
Now the eBooks that I list on eBay are all listed as CD Rom’s and posted via snail mail. But because I have My Digital Dispatch set up for my eBook website I’ve added the CD Rom titles to my inventory so that as soon as a customer makes a payment an email is automatically sent to the customer explaining that the disc is being processed and should be with them in a couple of days. I also supply them with a link to the relevant “Thank you page” where they can download the product if they would like to.
On my “Thank You” pages I have placed an opt in box for my newsletter, a free bonus and a couple of promotions. This in turn creates the possibility for other streams of income.
Until next time, Barry Wells

Barry,
Thanks for this enlightening post. I was wondering how ebook sellers were getting around the new rules. I too used to sell on ebay, but “threw in the towel” as you mentioned. Will consider this strategy.

Hi Lin, thanks for visiting my blog and leaving your comment.
I’m sorry to hear that you threw the towel in but if you give this a try you’ll soon see the results.
Best of luck, Barry

Huh?
I read it twice and I’m still a little confused.
However, I have a problem with the DMS solution. You see, I’m a Mac user, and 9 times out of 10, whenever I find a ‘program, ‘application’, ‘auto software’ item or such, it contains .exe files.
Macs hate .exe files. I do have a conversion application which works SOMETIMES, but you couldn’t trust it with a business solution.
OK I do have Windows 7 on the Mac too, but it runs far too sloooow to do anything useful.
So Question: Does the DMS solution run straight on a Mac?
This is a genuine enquiry by the way. It’s purely coincidental that this was the subject of a recent post.
Gotcha

Hi Alan, Sorry for the delay in my replying to your comment but I wanted to make sure that I answered your question correctly.
I’ve been in touch with the creator of DMS and can now confirm that DMS Does NOT work on MAC systems
I’ve sent you an email with what I hope is a solution to the problem Alan.
Catch up soon mate,
Barry
