I’ve Got My Website; What’s Next?

Please look down the Column on the far right for Categories and then click Getting Started for the previous entries leading upto this subject.

Following on from those earlier blog posts:

Ok, I had my 1st professional website and had uploaded it to my web host. I had the staff at MyDD (My Digital Dispatch) load the software onto my site and I had loaded it up with my inventory and items for sale.

I knew that my next step was to create a newsletter and place an opt-in form on my website. An opt-in form being the little box on websites that asks for your name and email address so as to join their newsletter.

Why did I need a newsletter? As I have said before I was selling on eBay, and once I had sent the eBook, received and left feedback; not only was that transaction over but so was my contact with the customer.

By having my own newsletter I was able to:

Stay in touch with my previous customers,

Attract new prospects that visit my website,

Offer them new products,

Promote other peoples products.

I had been told so many times that “The Money is In the List”, and it made so much sense that I simply had to have my own list of loyal subscribers.

I saw from the newsletters that I had subscribed to that Aweber was the choice of my peers. So I had a look on the Aweber site and found that it was a monthly subscription. At first I didn’t want to commit to any monthly subscriptions and for some time after I looked at alternative options but didn’t get anywhere.

Then I heard about John Thornhill having problems with his newsletter and swapping over to them, and the fact that he lost 5,000 subscribers by doing so. This reaffirmed that Aweber was the only way for me to go. So I grabbed the bull by the horns and signed up for an account.

After filling in my details I was eager to get started but was unsure of how to do so. I need not have worried as Aweber provide video, online and PDF guides.

With their help and guidance my 1st newsletter was born and I made two opt-in forms. One is inline, which stays in the same position on my home page and capture pages. The other opt-in form is a pop over, which climbs the screen after 5 seconds, whenever somebody visits my website.

On both of my opt-in forms I offer 5 free eBooks for signing up to my newsletter.

Aweber also guided me on how to place my opt-in forms on my website. Why not visit my website and have a look for yourself: www.e-books2u.org.uk

Now that I had my opt-in forms in place I was ready to promote my site and start building my list, which I’ll cover in a later blog post.

Until next time,
Barry Wells

Hi Jane, that’s a good question. As well as building a website we need to build a mailing list for future promotions and offers. It is often said that the money is in the list, and in this post I talk of starting my list, prior to trying different traffic generating systems. Once the traffic started I wanted my opt-in boxes in place so as to build my list up for future promotions etc.

Thanks for leaving your comment, take care

  8. Resale rights products are generally digital products like e-books or software which are written by authors who find themselves at a loss for time to sell their products. Typically there are three types of resale rights products; resale rights, master resale rights, private label rights.
