Wow Barry. Now that’s what I call a blog post. Pheew! You’re putting the rest of us to shame mate
I see you’ve started producing videos. I have too. Maybe we can share some video newbie notes so we cam improve? (Not saying you need more improvement).
The blog carnival thing looks interesting. Just wish I had the time to partake in these sort of things. Unfortunately I don’t at the moment, but I’ll watch your journey with great interest.
Since the Panda update I’ve started to add more multi-media stuff (just like you) to my repertoire. It makes content producing hard work, but it’ll pay off in the end
I haven’t used Audacity, but from some of the comments I’ve read elsewhere, it looks like a solid piece of kit. It’s also free which is even better.

I’ve been creating videos for some time now Des, but after taking part in the Learn With Sally coaching I have learnt how to improve on what I was doing previously.
I’ll help all I can with your videos Des, just let me know what you need and I’ll do all I can. Sharing tips will get us all to where we want to be and I’m certainly up for that mate, I may have learnt how to improve them but there’s always more to learn Des
The blog carnival doesn’t take too much time, it’s just a post once a month. I’ve been writing my posts so they all lead onto the next one as I’ll be creating a product from it at the end of the series.
I was interviewed by Jean Shaw last week and she recorded the interview with Audacity and then went on to edit it as well. I haven’t used it as I have Pamela for recording Skype calls and the I use Camtasia for editing.
Let me know about the videos mate and we can get our heads together.

Great post Barry and chalked full of so many goodies.
Dee Ann and I were chatting the other day and I know she wrote a post on putting audio on her blog and I know I need to be doing that as well. Heck, there are still so many things I need to do but anyway. I’m going to go back over Dawn’s post to see what she recommended since I don’t think it’s the same service Dee Ann is using. I’m considering doing that at my blog as well. Just offering the different ways.
I will definitely read Cassandra’s story and I’ve already got the tissue. See, you can turn things around but I hate that she had to go through all of that. I bet if you asked her she wouldn’t change a thing. It’s made her the person she is today.

I noticed that Dee Ann had started adding audio to her posts. I must pop over and see how she’s doing it.
I know exactly what you mean about having so many things that you need to do. I created a list of things i wanted to get finished before the Christmas break, so far this week I’ve finished 4 of them
I really enjoyed learning about Cassandra’s situation/story. I really do admire the young lady and found her a real inspiration. It took her 4 months to watch the first video she put on YouTube as she was so scared of seeing herself. I agree Adrienne, I also hate the fact that she had to suffer so much at the hands of bullies.
Mind you Adrienne; what a way to beat the bullies and stick a finger up at them. I wonder how they feel now, having seen Cassandra turn the situation around and become successful because of their callous behaviour.

Always good to pop over and see what you are up to. I thought I would add my 2 cents in the mix. I notice you mentioned creating videos for blogs and Youtube and I completely agree that it is a fantastic way of getting people to understand who you are and what you are about.
Many people making their first videos are nervous (I know I was) but the thing to remember is that you can’t say the wrong thing to the right person.
You can never reach out to everyone but you should only be interested in the people who connect to you anyway. So it pays to be yourself and attract the people who really get you.

You’ve made an excellent point Andy, we were all nervous when we started creating videos. I think we’re the same with anything new until we’ve actually done it then we wonder why were so nervous in the first place.
You can’t say the wrong thing to the right person is an excellent line that we all need to remember
I agree we should always be ourselves and let people get to know the real us through our work and videos, it’s the only way to build the Know Like and Trust factor that we all need online.

I know what you mean about having breaks and forgeting what to do next. What I do is make notes of everything I have to do. I have an A4 pad for notes and another one for my daily log of what I’ve done each day.
In part 2 of this series I detailed a simple way of creating a plan Linda, maybe that could help you mate?
Cassandra’s story really is an inspiration. Google her name and you’ll see how popular she has become. Success is coming her way, rightly so as well
Audacity is a very popular tool and the fact its free makes it all the more attractive doesn’t it….

Your Interview with Randy could go onto Kindle Dawn. It’s packed with good solid info that will help lots of people get their mindset right. I know that it has helped me focus a bit better and prioritse what’s more important.
The tip about creating audio was featured in part 7 as well Dawn but after our chat on Skype I added the bit about people transcribing it themselves. In part 7 I told everyone to send the audios over to you to transcribe them. The tip about transcribing the audios themselves was your idea so full credit to you Dawn

I have to agree with the other comments above mate… Wow! Truly a tremendous post and a fantastic addition to the series; well-done mate!
In the New Year Barry I am definitely going to do more Videos as I really enjoy doing them now since the LWS Course, prior to that I was rather nervous of doing them. I guess that’s because it was new to me.
I will also be adding more Interviews to follow on from the recent interview with Peggy Baron and creating a podcast series.
There are so many avenues that I still need to explore with all the new technology that has come out, already I can see 2012 being just as busy as this year!
You have provided a wealth of information and Tips in this post Barry; if someone was looking for a new exciting way to spice up there blog or take a “different road” in there Marketing Strategy or looking for another way of interacting with their visitors then they have just hit the jackpot!
And; thank you for sharing the story about Cassandra, she is an amazing woman and she is truly helping others

I am also going to creating more videos in the new year. What with my Christmas present I’ll be all set for lift off
We’re all nervous about doing things that’re new Ian but like you said since Sally’s coaching we’ve all come along way….. in every aspect but i do know what you mean about the videos.
I’m still going to put another video challenge together, but that’ll be February i think, so as to give people a months notice. I have it planned in my head and think it’ll be really good

Great post here! I also agree with all the comments mentioned above. I really believe that success comes to people who are willing to do what others aren’t. Doing something different or something that isn’t done that often is a great example for that.
I am definitely starting 2012 doing a lot of different things and I’m excited of it instead of being scared because hey, why not embrace it instead of running away from it.

I love the idea of innovation. This is something that is never ending. There is always something we can do better when we look at things closely. Plus, the environment and needs of people are always changing. This affects the needs and therefore the innovation needed.
Seems like there is a mass communication series for creating videos going on in the blogosphere right now. Adrienne and Dee Ann just did a couple of post encouraging us all to do videos. Now, I see you are also another great advocate of this medium of learning.
Thank you for all the goodies you have provided for us here. I am sure they will be extremely useful.

You’re right there is always something we can do better if we look hard enough. As technology changes we need to change our ways with it, or get left behind. That’ll never change as there are always new gadgets coming out in one shape or form
I love videos and want to encourage as many people as possible to get making them. I had a video blog challenge in August that went down really well and got a few people making them for the first time. It’s good to see that others are also promoting them as many of us need them for various tutorials.

I’m pleased that you liked the post. When i first started I found the typing very hard to do, I was one finger typing and didn’t know where the keys were on the keyboard
I’m not much better at typing now but I do know where to look for each letter now 
Speaking comes naturally so if people use the method mentioned in the post they’ll be able to move on a lot quicker and so build their confidence and enthusiasm.

I love reading these posts that you are writing for the blog carnival. They are always so good and inspiring.
Take the road not taken is really where it is at no matter what you are doing. The easy road that is all paved and nice is not nearly so productive as the one that is over grown and your have to cut your way through.
I try to remember this when I am working on the internet but sometimes I think I really loose sight of the less traveled road because the more traveled road is so much easier.
You make me think and inspire me and that is good.

I think most of us travel down the easier route first but somewhere along it we need to take the blinkers (blinders) off and have a good look around for ourselves. It can be a bit harder but the rewards can be far greater than they are by following the “norm”.

Hi Steve…thought it was about time to pay a visit. Great article series with excellent tips. It takes time to gather all the tools mentioned but once you have them I think your hints are spot on.
I didn’t think my site would be visited by mobile devices but after signing up with StatCounter I can see the value in optimizing the site. Fortunately I have found a plugin that allows me to present content to mobiles differently than to a desktop viewer. Can’t wait to try it out.
So I’m stepping out on a limb here and testing. Video is more challenging in that respect only time will tell. Turning audio into text is the next step for me but that will make transcribing video posts much easier. Can’t afford to outsource that but maybe one day.

Nearly all the tools I mention throughout the series are all free ones Dennis. I know what it’s like for people starting online for the first time. Many of them are very unsure of themselves and don’t want to spend any money on things they may never use. So I’ve tried to show everyone that there are free tools available to get them started.
I’m very interested in the plugin you mention Dennis please pop back and let us know how you get on with testing it.
Videos are quite easy to create and once you’ve create a couple you’ll want to keep creating them. I love creating videos and am now seeing YouTube in my traffic sources so it’s paying off.
There’s software that will turn your audio into text automatically, but that’s at a price of about $45 from Amazon. It’s called “Dragon Naturally Speaking”. The post I linked to from Dawn Kay will show you how to get some free software for transcribing your audios, but you’ll have to do the typing Dennis
I understand what you’re saying about affording to outsource, it’s that old balance again: Time V’s Money which I covered in part 7 of the series.

The plugin mentioned is actually written for the Thesis Theme For WordPress. It works by marking up two different versions of the content. It can present a shortened version of your textual content with a video at the correct dimensions and format for mobile devices that support Flash.
I’m testing Dragon NS shortly. I’ve installed it but need to spend time with it so thanks for the confirmation that it works

I think we all have so much more potential to learn than we give ourselves credit for. I learn better face to face, although I have found video tutoring very easy to follow. I love trying new things, I am a risk taker so will very quickly get out there and have a go. Even if I make a hash of something I am able to recognise the learning I have gone through. Great post, Barry.

Yes we do have a lot of potential to learn more than we think we can, we just need to push ourselves into doing so.

There really are a lot of different ways to make your online presence known and to give people you meet and interact with real value that will make them want to come back to you for more.
I am only using a very small portion of the techniques listed in your post, but I think I will be looking into spreading my wings a bit and trying new things, I just started in your video challenge, so that is a great start in the right direction.
