My Head Is Spinning With Ideas But I Need your Advice

Hi, thanks for stopping by.
I’m so excited my head is spinning with ideas, so I thought I’d write this post and ask you for your advice.
As you know I do a fair bit of blog hopping and when I find something of real value I like to pass it on to others that I think will benefit from it. One of the blogs I visit is Dawn Kays Blog and whilst there recently I saw that Dawn was offering to Transcribe an Audio Recording into a text document free of charge for one of the people that left a decent comment on her post. Meaning that people that have interviewed others can turn their recordings into original products with very little effort on their part.
Knowing that Dawn does this for a living from her First Class Transcriptions website I thought this was an excellent opportunity and knowing some people that have carried out interviews I quickly got in touch with them and pointed them in Dawns direction and didn’t give it much more thought.
Imagine my surprise and delight the next time I visited Dawn’s Blog to discover that I was One of Two people that had won a free transcription and a copy of Sally Neill’s Skype Interview Survival Kit, which basically walks you through the process of creating your first interview and tells you of the pitfalls to avoid.
Now you can see why I’m so excited, not only do I have a fantastic guide showing me how to prepare, conduct and target an expert for an interview I also have an expert ready to transcribe it for me.
Is that a result or what??
The thing is I have never conducted any form of interview before and to be honest I’m more than a little nervous about it, maybe even a little fearful. But when we have a fear there’s only one approach to take:
Face it!
Evaluate it!
Address it!
Remove it!
As I said I need your advice so If you were given this golden opportunity:
- Who would you target?
- Why would you target that person?
- What’s the One burning question you would ask them?
When the product has been created I’ll make sure that those who leave decent comments receive a free copy as my way of saying “Thank You”.
Oh, by the way If you would like a copy of Sally’s Skype Interview Survival Kit pop over to Dawn’s Blog where you can download your free copy (without having to opt-in) it really is an excellent guide. Please remember to leave a comment saying “Thanks Dawn”
Dawn has also created some excellent check lists to help us in our online campaigns. If you haven’t checked them out please do so, they’re a great help.
Could you also help me spread the word please? Hit the buttons below to tell your friends about this post and the gifts on offer, every little helps both me and your friends
Until next time, Face Your Fears

Hi Barry,
first of all, Congrat on Win ! Now, after all, is really hard to say, who can you Target for Interview.
1. Target= some big Face , who, I really don’t know. Maybe, John Thornhill, because we’re his students ??! Maybe Dave Nicholson, Daniel Sumner ??!
2. Why ? Maybe, they can tell us more about options for free Advertising, for some Secrets, which they maybe know and we don’t!
3. Question : Do you use some Social Bookmarks site for Promotion (like: Bookmarks.biz, Bookmark.com, Bookmark4you.com) ? Which one ? Do you have any other, better solution for Promoting our sites -for Free for which we don’t know ?
I hope Barry, that I Help you with this.
Anyway, Again, Congratulation for Win !

Hi Barry, wow what a great prize! I had a long think about who I would interview and there’s actually a few people, so I’m going to name them all!
I would love to interview Peggy Baron (http://www.peggybaron.com/blog/). I’m a follower of her blog and I also buy her really good PLR packs. I am very interested to know how popular PLR writers such as Peggy start out, get themselves known and how easy is it to get into that field of online work.
I think I would really like to interview Brandon Connell (http://www.brandonconnell.com/) because I’ve been visiting his blog for a while now and he has a unique way of attracting traffic in that he runs regular competitions and gives really good prizes. I would really like to ask him how much he thinks this affects his rank and whether these competitions are worthwhile.
And I would love to interview Sally Neill (http://www.sallyneill.com/) to find out how much of an influence working for Alex and being able to ‘link’ her name with his had in her online success. Is this something we can all aspire to?
What an excellent idea running a ‘competition’ for ideas! A stroke of brilliance, Barry. Hope the interview goes well, I’m sure it will. Sometimes we are more afraid of doing something than actually doing it, if you see what I mean. Once we get into it and get on with it we’re actually fine, as you will be.
Enjoy the journey.

Hey Barry, congratulations on your win. It sounds like you are really excited about this.
Since I was recently a student of Alex Jeffrey’s I went through their training of how to interview someone, get it set up on podcast, etc. So, lucky me right! Sally was also a very big part of that which is how I got connected with her in the first place.
I don’t really have a special someone that I would like to hear from to be honest with you. I have a friend, Steve Roy, who recently started his own pod cast series of interviewing people. Seth Godin was at the top of that list so he sent him an email requesting an interview. Much to Seth’s dismay, he accidentally replied thinking it was something else but committed himself to the interview. Steve was able to get 10 minutes from him so he had a lot of really great questions he asked and Seth shared his answers. After hearing that one, I don’t know who at this point could top that.
Sorry I’m of no help but I wish you the very best of luck with this. Can’t wait to hear who will be on your list and what you will be sharing.
Thanks Barry,

Barry,
Congratulations on your winnings.
I think that is really great that you have the opportunity to have an email transcribed and am going to go to Dawn’s site and get my free copy of Sally’s Skype Interview Survival Kit. Thank you.
As far as your questions go:
1. Who would you target? — I would have the same problem. I would love to interview someone but have no idea who I would interview. I would think an Internet Marketing Guru though. I know someone else mentioned John Thornhill(who I was going to suggest also), so I think that would be a good idea.
2. Why would you target that person? — I am sure we could all learn more from him and I think he would be easy to interview. I think for the first interview I do, I would want to interview someone who was very confident in speaking and could basically carry the interview as I would be really nervous. I think John would be really easy to interview.
3. What’s the One burning question you would ask them? — I think this probably sounds kind of stupid but I keep thinking there are things that are unwritten rules or pieces of information that no one ever thinks to tell those of us that are new or not as far along. (I have found in most everything I have ever done there are those little pieces of information that are really key and important that no one ever tells me, but when I find it out a light comes on.) I would like to hear what one of the people who are making money think those things might be. Don’t think it would make a complete interview but might be interesting to hear.
Well don’t know that I was of much help but I put in my two bits for what it is worth.
Am looking forward to listening to your interview no matter who you decide to interview or what topic you decide to use for the interview.

It doesn’t matter if others have mentioned someone already Dee Ann as those people that’re mentioned numerous times are obviously ones of high interest, which may lead me to target them.
John Thornhill is certainly a high contender for the very reasons you state.

Hi Barry
Congrats on your winnings – woohoo!!
I found you via Sally’s blog – I was also a fellow student of Alex Jeffreys and I am dealing with the same questions. I honestly have no idea who I would want to interview. The hardest part is going to be to actually get them to agree to an interview. I have tried to make contact in the past with some people – actually was pretty persistent and no response, so good luck with whatever and whoever you choose to interview.

Thanks for the congrat’s, i’m really excited about it but really nervous at the same time
Have a read of Sally’s eBook Linda it gives some excellent pointers of how to get the target to agree to an interview.
Here’s a tip: Wait for the target to start promoting something and check out their bonus offers. Many people will offer an hour consultation, which you can record. It does mean buying a product but weigh the cost of the product against the success of your product created from the interview and the balance should come down in your favour every time
Thanks for the compliments about my blog, much appreciated Linda

Hey Barry,
Congrats on winning Dawn’s super duper prize, I am sure you will create a fabulous product from this opportunity!
And thank you for the shout out to my ebook too, much appreciated.
Ohhhh who would I target?
That’s not that tough for me…
Target: I guess it would STILL be Alex Jeffreys because he has taught me so much, it would be Alex every single time.
Reason: Simply because he knows internet marketing inside out and every time I speak to him I learn something new.
Thing is I speak to Alex quite a lot so I am forever asking him questions lol, I annoy him constantly but he is always willing to help help me, so I don’t really have one burning question, more like questions that just pop up.
Only you know what you want to learn Barry.
Ask questions you need the answers too.
Many of your readers are at the same level or a little behind in their online career so they will be struggling with the same things.
And don’t be nervous remember…
You are doing this for your “online friends” by facing a fear you are helping them, you have a fabulous chance to truly help others.
Many people can’t face fears, so you need to do it!
You need to show other people that fears can be faced, and this will in turn help them face their own fears.
Good luck with the interview, I know you will be brilliant, I have complete faith in ya (and don’t forget my free copy lol)

ps. tweeted and shared on my fanpage for ya seeing as you always do it for me

Hi Sally, Thanks for the congrat’s I was shocked and delighted by winning the prize.
No worries on the shout out about your eBook Sally, you know when I find gems online I like to Pass it on to others.
I had a feeling it would be Alex Jeffrey’s for you Sally because I know you went from his student to his staff before stepping out alone.
You made a very good point about only I know what I want to learn, there are so many aspects that i still need to learn that I’ll have to put my thinking hat on and prioritise them.
I know what you mean about not being nervous and facing our fears. It’s funny Sally, only last week I told you my only fear was getting in front of the camera. But at that time I had never thought of conducting an interview and now that I am
I’ve installed Skype and as soon as I can get someone to unplug my speakers I’ll be testing it out and getting used to it.
Of course you’ll be getting a free copy Sally as soon as it sorted
Thanks for helping to pass the word, much appreciated.

Hi Barry
Congratulations mate on winning Dawns Prize. I am sure you will do a fantastic interview Barry.
There are quite a few people I would love to interview (If I had the opportunity and courage to do so!)
I would love to interview John Thornhill its an obvious choice for me Barry being a current student,(Masterclass) but there are so many things he could give imput on depnding on the questions asked.
I would also like to interview Liz Tomey http://liztomey.com/blog/ I am currently in her online PLR and Video training workshop program. I would ask her about how to set up an online training workshop and membership site.
I would also like to interview Chris Farrell http://www.chrisfarrellmembership.com His membership site has been voted No.1 Internet Marketing Service. If there was one important factor in creating a successfull Memebership site – what would it be?
Not sure if I have been much assistance Barry, there are certainly some high profile candidates for you to interview out there.

I can’t wait to see who you are going to interview and I’m really looking forward to transcribing it.
I’ve got a feeling it’s going to be a good one (lol).
I haven’t conducted an interview myself yet as it’s still on my list of fears I need to conquer but when I do I would probably interview someone that’s already done some interviews so I don’t have to talk much and that I already know.
Just to make it a little bit easier on me.
Is that cheating or what??
So…
I would like to interview Sally Neil and I want to ask her where she gets all her fab ideas from for content in her videos and in her blog posts.
Because no one does them like she does.

Hi Barry,
Great to know you’ve won a free transcription from Dawn Kay. What goes around comes around in this business. That’s one of the beauties of it, you know.
I’m sure you’re going to do just fine. Fear sometimes is a good thing. In this case it most definitely is.
Fear is normal. I’m sure if I was in your shoes or when I put my self in your shoes I will feel the same way you do. I’m sure many would feel the same way too.
So just go ahead and do it and keep in mind things are just going to get better and think about the results.
So if I was in your shoes Barry I would go after any Big Gun who would accept my invitation for maximum exposure.
I’m sure you’ve been around enough and helped so many, I don’t think you should have a problem, finding. I would go after John Thornhill, because after all, he is our mentor and well known.
What would be my one burning question? Well Barry I would have a lot of burning questions if I was going to do an interview (Good title for the interview, Burning Questions). It would all depend on what it is that we will be talking about.
Although one burning question would be… Why do so many people get sucked in to thinking Internet Marketing and making money online is easy as pie?
What ever it is that you decide to do Barry I’m sure it will all turn out good because I know you always do your best in everything you do.

I’ve been trying to get volume to my headset so that I can start using Skype to do some dummy runs with volunteers before going in for the biggy, but not having much luck with that as yet
Yes fear is normal Terry, we’ve faced and got through many of them simply by sticking with it and seeing the task through to completion. Just think how far we have come over the last couple of years, we know what fears we had when we started this journey and we’ve crushed most of them.
John Thornhill has been getting a few mentions so it may be him that I set my sights on Terry. I’ll see who has been mentioned the most when I’m ready to get the interview started and try targetting that person.

Hi Barry
You’re getting an interesting list of people to be interviewed for the future!
In answer to your questions:
1. Who would you target?
Tiffany Dow
2. Why would you target that person?
Tiffany styled herself as the Ghostwriter to the Gurus. She wrote many products and sales pages for them until she realised that instead of being paid once for her writing skills, she could create PLR material (similar to Peggy Baron as mentioned by Mandy) and be paid over and over again.
She has helped many people to set up their own PLR businesses and is very generous with her advice on her blog.
She pulls no punches in her assessment of products – honest to the point of embarrassment for certain individuals.
She seems to have an excellent balance between work and family life.
3. What’s the one burning question you would ask them?
Well, there are two:
a) What advice would you offer to someone who is looking to start a business online?
(I know what her answer is to this one; you can view her blog – I’m sure it’s there. Different advice to what many marketers suggest.)
b) You have written on subjects as diverse as dating, dogs, stopping smoking, dieting, pay per click, the list goes on. What is your number one method to research for the subject and to write the content?
Okay, Barry, I know I sneaked two question in that last one. But hey, given an opportunity to speak to people like Tiffany, John Thornhill, Alex Jeffreys, Liz Tomey, Chris Farrell and so on, there’d be 1001 questions to be asked. And there’d be a gem in each of their answers.
All the best,
John

Wow! That’s great news Bary! Congratulations! I’m excited to know how the interview would go as I myself have no idea how to best do it. But I love to help you so here are my answers to your questions.
1. Who would you target?
I can’t really suggest a specific person but as a business owner, I would love to know the stories of a successful business owner. Or maybe someone who have been into a lot of failures in business but was able to persist and stand up from their failures.
2. Why would you target that person?
This would inspire a lot other business owners to take risks and stand up from pitfalls in business. Maybe get some advice of how to handle situations under pressure or the likes of that.
3. What’s the One burning question you would ask them?
I’d probably just want to know their story and would love to be inspired by them as well as inspire others.
So that’s it. I hope it somehow helped.

Who would I interview? … John would be my first choice …not only is he successful but as Terry mentioned …you are one of his students..and he seems to be the kind of guy who will help where ever he can.
The other suggestion is Ana Hoffman of trafficgenerationcafe.com
This lady write some excellent stuff on getting traffic to your blog.
I would like to know from both …where they get their ideas from?
How do they get the creative juices flowing.
A little tip here to help you with your nerves…. do a few with unknowns so you can practice and when the big one come around you will be more relaxed.
Have a great day.
Cheers
Bryan

Hi Bryan, good to see you again my friend. For some strange reason you went to the spam folder
Thanks for the congrat’s and compliments Bryan.
Yes John Thornhill is getting some mentions here Bryan. He is leading the target board so far
Your questions are good ones Bryan I’ll be making a list of questions very soon and will take a lot from these comments.
That’s a good idea about doing some interviews with other people first. I’ve installed skype and got a new headset yesterday for fathers day so I’m good to go once I can arrange calls.
Do you use Skype Bryan?
Catch up very soon mate,

Hi Barry,
I think interviewing somebody is great idea, and I also find it a little daunting. I guess it’s the same as doing your first video. You stand there all tongue tied and worried about how you will sound. Then it dawns on you. Nobody sees it unless you want them to.
After awhile it all becomes natural.
I work with Brad Gosse and belong to his mastermind group. I think he would make a great subject to interview. The reason being is that he has entered so many different niches with success.
I have seen an idea on the table monday morning, turn into a working business 7 days later. Amazing to watch.
I think the question I would ask any successful IM would be. If you had to start again what would you do differently?
If you interviewed enough people you could make a product from those answers alone.
As always, great stuff on this site Barry.
Chat real soon.

Hi Andy, it’s good to see you again.
It’s funny you mention Videos as just before winning this competition I was trying to create my first video facing the camera. I got about half way through and hit an er um moment and of course it all went silly from there
like you said though Andy, nobody has to see them until we have perfected them.
Brad Gosse sounds very interesting Andy. I bet that’s very inspirational seeing an idea turn in to a business within 7 days. I’d love to be able to watch that, wouldn’t we all
It’s funny that you raise the question “If you had to start again what would you do differently?” as I have recently been asked the same question by someone that is asking a few people the same question with a view to creating a product from it.
Great minds think alike Andy
Thanks for your input mate, catch you up very soon.

Hi Barry. We focus a lot on success, and people are successful. Wouldn’t it be different to find someone who has had success, and then simply lost the will? You should highlight the potential downside with such a person.

Hi Barry,
Now that’s a cool commenting award! Congrats on winning it.
Looks like you’ve gotten some great comments on your questions, so I’ll throw my 2 cents in here as well:
1) Who would you target and why?
Not a specific person can I suggest, but if it were me, I would go after someone in your niche that you aspire to be… someone who is a step or two above you in terms of results and popularity, and then….
2) What burning question would I ask?
… I would ask that person…. How did you get where you are today? What did you do first? What steps did you take? What shortcuts have you found that would help my readers (and you).
I know that’s more than one question, but the first question leads to the next, and the next, and then you’ve got yourself one heckuva interview.
Great post, Barry. This is my first time here but I’ll be sure to stop back and see what’s new.
All the best,
Bob

Hi Bob, welcome to my blog. It’s very good of you to come over.
Thanks for the congrat’s Bob, I’m thrilled at winning the prize.
Yes I’ve got some great comments on this post giving me some excellent ideas for people to target and questions to ask. Being my first interview I’ve found them extremely helpful.
As is your suggestion Bob: Rather than going for a guru go for someone a few steps further up the ladder, great idea.
The questions are also very good Bob and yes they could form the interview, excellent, thanks again.
I’m really pleased you liked the post Bob and look forward to seeing you again soon.
